AEROSMITH & YUNGBLUD: First One From One More Time
Aerosmith have released their first new song since their last album, 2012's Music From Another Dimension! "My Only Angel" is the lead track off their collaborative five-song EP with British singer Yungblud titled One More Time.
Co-written by Steven Tyler, Joe Perry and Yungblud, it opens with Tyler singing a cappella and asking, “Will you cry, if I called you my angel? Would you leave me one more time?” before Yungblud joins in. The collaboration came about when Yungblud had Aerosmith join him in the studio with the intention of them playing on "Hello Heaven, Hello” on his new album, Idols. What began as a guest spot soon turned into a writing session, eventually evolving into a five-track EP. Backed by Perry, Brad Whitford, Tom Hamilton, and former Guns N' Roses and Velvet Revolver drummer Matt Sorum in place of Joey Kramer, the four other songs are
"Problems," "Wild Woman," "A Thousand Days," and a "2025 Mix" of Aerosmith's 1976 classic, "Back in the Saddle."
The EP's artwork, a combination of their logos -- Aerosmith's wings and YungBlud's skull -- was designed by Hollywood luxury brand Chrome Hearts. On stage Wednesday night at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles with The Joe Perry Project, Tyler said they've kept this project a secret for four months. One More Time will be released on CD, vinyl (black, red and clear), and digitally on November 21st.
Tyler, Perry and Yungblud collaborated last week at the MTV Video Music Awards in tribute to Ozzy Osbourne, doing “Mama I’m Coming Home.”Tyler and Yungblud were also part of Ozzy and Black Sabbath's last show, Back to the Beginning, on July 5th in Birmingham, England, and Yungblud reportedly attended Ozzy's funeral.
AEROSMITH: Three Fifths of a Reunion
The rumors of Steven Tyler joining The Joe Perry Project -- featuring Aerosmith guitarist Brad Whitford -- on stage Wednesday night at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles were true. Tyler, with two of his grandchildren in the audience, came out for the last two songs -- Aerosmith's "Walk This Way" and their cover of "The Train Kept A-Rollin'." And earlier in the show, Slash
joined in on "Mama Kin." Wednesday's show was the second one that Perry opened for The Who on their farewell tour, and it was the last date of their brief tour.
At the end of "Walk This Way," Tyler and Perry plugged today's (Friday) release of Aerosmith's "My Only Angel," their collaboration with Yungblud. They said they kept it a secret for four months. It's the first release off One More Time, the five-song EP they did with the singer, which will be out on November 21st. The four other songs are "Problems," "Wild Woman," "A Thousand Days" and "Back in the Saddle" (2025 Mix). This EP marks the band's first new music since their last album, 2012's Music From Another Dimension! What we don't know is if the band's Brad Whitford, Tom Hamilton and Joey Kramer joined Tyler and Perry on the recording of these songs. Tyler, Perry and Yungblud took part in a tribute to Ozzy Osbourne last week at the MTV Video Music Awards in Elmont, New York.
PAUL McCARTNEY: Listen to What He Says
Paul McCartney was asked in his "You Gave Me the Answer" column on PaulMcCartney.com how he deals with the misinformation or AI-created content that is supposedly him, and how can we be sure what is real and what is not. He says, "There’s so much of it about and it can be hard to know what is real. I think most people can still tell the difference but some of it is getting pretty clever. "Friends are often telling me they’ve seen pictures of me doing things which I haven’t done. Or read things I’ve said that I’ve not said. Or there are songs appearing with me apparently on them. Some of it is really wild! "I always say that it’s best to check my website and my own social media accounts to see if it’s official, as that’s where we share news about what I’m up to. If it’s not there then the chances are that it’s fake news!" Among the most notorious AI-enhanced items related to McCartney are photos of him "serenading" an ailing Phil Collins in the hospital, or posters announcing him "touring" with Ringo Starr next year.
Kevin Cronin Reuniting With REO Speedwagon For One Night
A couple months back, it was a safe bet that all the members of REO Speedwagon would never again appear on the same stage. Lead singer Kevin Cronin was at odds with the rest of the band, and as he went on a solo tour, the rest of them performed at a hometown benefit without him, increasing the rift. Game over, right? Maybe not. Bruce Hall ignited hope for REO's fans, revealing that he and Kevin Cronin have agreed to put aside their feud and perform together as REO Speedwagon for a special occasion later this month. On Facebook, Hall wrote, "REO Speedwagon is coming back to campus, the place where it all began, to lead this year’s Illinois Homecoming Parade as our grand marshals on Friday, Sept. 26. The band members will also participate in game day as the pregame Siren Sounders and will take the field with Barry Houser and the Marching Illini to collaborate on a one-of-a-kind REO-themed halftime show that will feature a medley of the band’s hit songs." The reunion is expected to include Speedwagoners Alan Gratzer and Neal Doughty as well. While Hall has broken the news, no word from Cronin on any of this to this point.
U2: To Get Guthrie Prize
U2 have been named this year's recipient of the Woody Guthrie Prize. The honor is handed out each year to an artist who embodies the late folk singer’s “social consciousness and musical legacy.” Woody Guthrie Center senior director Cady Shaw said, "U2 embodies the mission of the Woody Guthrie Prize, using music to confront injustice and inspire action. By presenting the 2025 Woody Guthrie Prize to U2, we honor a legacy of music that continues to challenge who we are and connect us the world over.” Bono and The Edge will accept the honor on October 21st at Cain’s Ballroom in Tulsa, Oklahoma. It will mark the first time that the pair will be in Cain’s since U2 played there in 1981. Previous recipients of the Woody Guthrie Prize include John Mellencamp, Bruce Springsteen and Tom Morello.
GEDDY LEE: "Shameless" Book Plug
Geddy Lee is admittedly doing some "shameless book promotion" as he's posted a video on Instagram of him talking about his third book, 72 Stories, which is about his collection of baseball memorabilia. "I was embarking on a sale of many items from my collection, and it just seemed a shame to sell things without preserving some parts of the collection in some way. We were talking about it with some of my other baseball friends and one of them said, 'Just do a book.' I basically went through my entire collection and chose a number of items that meant a lot to me. So, a lot of them are windows into history for me, which is why I got into collecting." 72 Stories from the Collection of Geddy Lee, which was originally a limited-edition book given to those who bought items in his collection when he auctioned them in July 2024, will be published by HarperCollins on September 30th. Lee's previous two books are the aforementioned Big Beautiful Book of Bass in 2018, and his 2023 memoir, My Effin' Life.
"Dark Side Of The Moon" Chart Record Threatened
Pink Floyd's landmark 1973 album "Dark Side of the Moon" holds the record for the most weeks on the Billboard 200 album chart with 990 weeks. While that seems like a record that will never be broken, five albums released more than 30 years ago might have a shot. Fleetwood Mac's "Rumours" is still in the top 30 in its 650th week on the chart.Metallica's 1991 self-titled Black album has spent 805 weeks on the chart, "Nevermind" by Nirvana is at 739 weeks and "Thriller" by Michael Jackson is just five weeks away from 700. But the album that might have the best chance of breaking "Dark Side's" record is a greatest hits album. This week marks 904 weeks on the Billboard 200 for "Legend: The Best of Bob Marley and the Wailers."
QUEEN: 50 Years At the Opera
Queen will celebrate the 50th anniversary of their fourth album, 1975's A Night At the Opera, and its signature song, "Bohemian Rhapsody," by reissuing both on vinyl. And, in keeping with Queen's "regal" image, both reissues are quite opulent with A Night At the Opera coming out on October 17th on lavish crystal clear vinyl with gold labels, and "Bohemian Rhapsody" following on October 31st on transparent blue heavyweight 12” vinyl. It will also be available as a direct-to-consumer exclusive 12” picture disc and blue cassette single.
Commenting on the album, guitarist Brian May says, "A Night At the Opera was a hugely important album for us. It opened up the world for us... We truly felt like we could try anything at that point. As songwriters, we were challenging each other and competing with each other in the best possible way... Thanks in a large part to 'Bohemian Rhapsody', people knew who we were – not just in the UK, but in America, Australia, everywhere.” And drummer Roger Taylor adds, "We were at the peak of our confidence. It felt like there wasn’t anything we couldn’t do, and it shows on that album... It’s such an eclectic album. It’s mad and it’s wonderful and it’s got a bit of everything in it.”
A Night At the Opera peaked at number-four on the Billboard 200 and has been certified three-times platinum for sales in excess of three million copies. "Bohemian Rhapsody" climbed as high as number-nine on the Billboard Hot 100 and the physical released has been certified platinum for sales of a million copies, while the digital release bumps it to over 10-million and Diamond status. It was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2004, and in 2022 it was selected for preservation in the Library of Congress’ National Recording Registry. And, in addition to "Bohemian Rhapsody," A Night At the Opera also included "You're My Best Friend," "39," "I'm in Love With My Car," and "Love of My Life."
