Ann Wilson Confirms There Is A Heart Biopic In Development

The rock biopic realm is an even more male dominated field than the musical genre, and just like Heart helped break the glass ceiling on the charts in the '70s, one of rock's greatest female-fronted acts is going to be one of the first of its kind to break into the biopic business.

Ann Wilson told Volume West in a recent conversation that a movie based on Heart's legendary career, inspiring perseverance and iconic music already has a draft of its script and a director: Portlandia co-creator and star Carrie Brownstein.

"I saw the first draft of the script," said the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame singer. "It's really cool. She's working with the movie company — Amazon — and with the producer, Linda Obst, who did Sleepless in Seattle."

The narrative is expected to cover Ann and her sister Nancy Wilson's journey from childhood through the '90s, exploring the sisters' childhood, their rise to prominence in the '70s and their most commercially-successful but tumultuous period in the '80s.

Ann says the principle characters in the story have yet to be cast, but she doesn't have a preference on who portrays her.

"I just don't have any ideas. I'm too close to it," she said. "I'm just as excited about finding out as you are."

While actress Anne Hathaway has expressed interest in the project, Ann doubted the Les Miserables and Devil Wears Prada star is "exactly right" for one of the biopic's lead roles.

The COVID-19 pandemic has slowed development of the project, but Ann adds that "it's definitely coming along" despite the complications.

Ann and Nancy both unveiled solo singles in October. Ann released a cover of Steve Earle's "The Revolution Starts Now." Nancy released a cover of Bruce Springsteen's "The Rising," along with plans to drop a full-length solo album of mostly original songs in early-2021.
