The Black Crowes Have New Songs But No Plans To Record Yet

The newly constituted version of The Black Crowes is in no rush to begin recording new music, but brothers Chris and Rich Robinson are open to the idea in theory.

The brothers, who are the only members of the band returning from its prior lineups, have yet to embark on their highly-anticipated reunion tour, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The postponed tour will highlight the 30th anniversary of The Black Crowes' hit debut album, Shake Your Money Maker.

"Rich and I, our focus, like anyone else, is to get through this pandemic and get back to where we can do the thing we love," Chris told AXS TV's At Home and Social. "I miss going to see music as much as I miss playing. And I know all of our friends for many, many decades and in many different places around the world who are musicians — none of us are working. But our main focus is to tour. We've been writing a bunch of new songs, and we'll get around to making a record, but we're in no hurry to do that. We wanna get on the road. We wanna do this tour. We put together an amazing band, and we wanna go out and do it."

Shake Your Money Maker was re-released in multiple formats on February 26. The 4LP and 3CD super deluxe versions include the remastered album, three never-before-heard studio recordings; two previously unreleased demos from the band's early incarnation; B-sides; and a 14-song unreleased concert recorded in the Crowes' hometown of Atlanta, Georgia, in December 1990.

The band's new lineup played two concerts in November 2019 — coinciding with the surprise reunion announcement — but the tour planned for the summer of 2020 never got off the ground due to the pandemic.
