Stop Biting your Nails

I admit it, I'm a compulsive nail biter. Not sure if it's because I constantly have a need to be biting or chewing on something or if it's becasue the current climate of uncertainty is making me nervous. Regardless, I have found that my nail biting has increased over the past two weeks. I decided to do some research on the subject and found that nail biting is actually a thing called Onychophagia. It is estimated that 20 to 30 percent of the population do it, which can lead to a bunch of problems such as destroy parts of your gum tissue and lips and flatten and dull your teeth. The biggest concern is putting your mouth in higher contact with germs and bacteria that get on your hands and under your nails. Seventy-six percent of people who bite their nails have fecal bacteria in their saliva. Yikes! Here are some tips to help you stop biting: Use a bad tasting nail polish like No-Bite or some Tabasco sauce. Start using it on one finger and see if that helps. Ask for reminder from friends and family who don't bite their nails. Put gloves on your hands. Chew more gum (my favorite choice) . Get a custom mouthgaurd. When people worry, nervous habits tend to become more obvious. Hopefully when we make it through this we will all stop biting the hands that feed us.
