I'm Certified now..

I started SCUBA diving back in 1986 down in Springfield MO with a place called Aqua Sports. I still have my original wet suit from there, but it no longer fits. I dove recreational when taking trips to the Carribean over the years, but once I got married and had kids, those opportunities occurred less and less. Since I moved to Iowa, I had went diving only once, so my knowledge and skills were a bit rusty. There is a new SCUA and Swim center called DiVentures, located in North Liberty. I met their staff and was very impressed with their knowledge and operation. Turns out, my old SCUBA center in Springfield is now part of the DiVentures family.  It was like fate or something that brought me back to find them. Over the past month I went through their online training course and a few days in the pool. I joined a group who was learning for the first time, and decided the complete refresher was probably a good idea. This past weekend I went over to Kankakee IL to a place called Haigh Quarry, a fantastic dive site for both training and fun dives. I took 4 dives over the 2 days and passed my Open Water Diver certification..  I can't wait to get my daughter involved in SCUBA, since my wife has no interest and has had some difficulty with even snorkeling. It's not for everyone. Some people find it very difficult to breath and stay calm under water. I find it fascinating and look forward to getting back to the ocean and a bit warmer water. The temperature at the deepest part of my dive this past weekend was a chilly 47 degrees. Most people would rather stay in water that is in the 80's.
